Counselling is a collaborative process. The topics you want to talk about form the basis of every session, and your therapist will work with you to identify in what ways counselling would be most helpful, what your goal for counselling is, and the ways in which you might work together.
Even in one session, talking out concerns can help you gain perspective and provide some relief. Some people like to attend a first session to see how comfortable they feel about both the process and the therapist – this is customary. If you decide to continue, the basis of further sessions, fees and a time-frame will be discussed and agreed by both of you.
Sessions last 55 minutes and take place usually weekly or fortnightly to maximise the benefit of the sessions.
